5 Handy Hints for Family Snow Fun at Mt Buffalo

1. Please ensure you hire all your ski gear at Porepunkah Ski Hire, down the road from us In Porepunkah. They have all sizes from kids to adults. There are also 2 local ski hire places in Bright, 5 mins from Porepunkah.

2. Chains need to be carried at all times, however only need to be fitted specific times during the winter months. Our friends at the Porepunkah Ski Hire will show you exactly how to fit them to your car when you visit them. Please be aware that if you are found to not be carrying chains with you, while you are in Mt Buffalo there is a fine from Parks Victoria.
A daily snow and mountain driving report is also posted at https://www.facebook.com/VisitMountBuffalomndk/

3. Mt Buffalo has no operating chair lifts, therefore it is great for snow fun i.e tobogganing, building snow men for the kids and cross country skiing and snow seeing for the adults. There are many guided cross country tracks and snow shoe walks you can do with our friends at Mt Buffalo Ski School, who operate daily when the weather is good.
-there are 2 main areas to access extensive areas of snow at Mt Buffalo. The first is Dingo Dell. this is about a 45 minute drive from Porepunkah, and 50 mins from Bright. You will find great snow play areas with gentle slopes for tobogganing and general snow fun. There is also a cafe and heated day shelter where the Mt Buffalo Ski School is also based. These school sells a range of affordable beanies, sox and gloves for those that might have forgotten winter warmers and also have toboggans, snowshoes and How skis for hire {a cross btw a snowshoe and normal cross country skis} for hire. Please ensure you take cash with you as the wifi is not great during the winter months.

The other is Cresta Valley, a short drive past Dingo Dell. Cresta Valley has extensive areas available to use for snow play and Cresta is also the hub for cross country skiers to access the groomed cross country beginners trail, Bogong Loop and Horn Road skit rails. There is no cafe at Cresta Valley but there are portable toilets and a small day shelter {unheated}. Take your winter woollies and wet weather gear. There is plenty of parking at both Dingo Dell and Cretsa Valley.

4. Be sure to take your camera as there are some very special Photo moments you will encounter. The Gorge with its amazing views of the valleys below and the Alps is well worth a visit
The Historical Mount Buffalo Chalet covered with snow is a beautiful photo opportunity.

5. There is a snow cam located at Dingo Dell with a view of the toboggan run so you can also view the snow conditions yourself before driving up. the snow cam can be viewed at https://www.mountbuffaloskischool.com.au[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
