Twilight Crit – Series 1 December 5,12

The concept is simple, a short and sharp weekly event for people of all ages and ability to go out and ride their mountain bike. A mix of grades to match abilities and fitness and enjoy riding with your mates. A small presentation at the last ride of the series awarding place-getters in each series.

The series will be held on a Thursday evening, with racing starting at 6:00pm and finished up by 7:30pm.


1st FAI Asian Oceanic Continental Paragliding XC Race Championships

During December 2019 the skies above the Ovens and Kiewa Valleys will be lit with the spectacle of up to a hundred paraglider pilots competing in the First FAI Asian / Oceanic Paragliding Championships.

This event is a Federation Aeronautique International (FAI) accredited category two event and will serve as the sanctioning event for the Main 1st FAI Cat1 Asian Oceanic Continental Paragliding XC Race Championships, also to be hosted in Bright December 2020.

With seven possible ‘tasking’ days for competition tasks, the pilots will be utilising Mystic Flight Park, Gundowring or Buckland Ridge as launch for cross country (XC) races of up to 100 kilometres each day. Races will finish at dedicated landing zones at Mystic Flight Park, Pioneer Park, Porepunkah Airstrip or Mount Beauty. Each ‘task’ is decided upon to suit prevailing weather conditions.

Bright Make it, Bake it, Grow it Market

By following the Make it, Bake it, Grow it ethos, the Bright Monthly Markets strive to showcase the best local produce and product going around. The market has been operating under this new direction since September 2010 and has grown to include over 50 local stall holders.

Held on the third Saturday of each month in Howitt Park, the market also provides live entertainment and children’s activities all contributing to a vibrant atmosphere for local members of the community and visitors alike.


Bright Rotary Summer Concert Series December 22, 29

Make the most of the balmy summer evenings in Bright this school holidays with free music and entertainment in Howitt park.

Kicking off with special Christmas Carols performance on 22 December, the Rotary Club of Bright brings you a series of family-friendly concerts throughout December and January that is sure to get everyone’s toes tapping.

Held in the picturesque Howitt Park on the banks of the Ovens River, bring a chair or rug and enjoy a free evening of family entertainment during the summer school holidays.


Bright Carols in the Park December 22

Bring the family down to Howitt Park for a festive evening of Christmas entertainment.

Featuring a great line-up of local artists and a special visit from Santa at 7:00pm (subject to international wind and weather conditions from the North Pole) this promises to be a Bright Carols to remember.

Bring your own picnic rug or chairs, a picnic dinner and your best singing voices. Proudly hosted by the Rotary Club of Bright.


Myrtleford Golden Spurs Rodeo December 26


The Myrtleford Golden Spurs Rodeo has been running continuously for 66 years, making it one of Australia’s oldest rodeos.

Held on Boxing Day each year at the picturesque grounds of the Myrtleford Recreation Reserve, it is a must do family event at Christmas time for visitors to northeast Victoria and Alpine Region.

It is a not-for-profit event and is run by the local Lions Club with the help of many other volunteers, with all proceeds put back into Lions Programs and local community projects.

Gates open at 11:00am and the main program starting at 4:00pm until about 11:00pm, culminating with an open Bull Ride and Golden Spurs presentation.

Rodeo is fully catered with a variety of food available, there is no BYO alcohol or glass permitted or dogs permitted.

Bring a chair, a blanket for the evening, and enjoy the spectacle of a country rodeo.


Ringer Reef’s Picnic in the Vineyard December 27,29


Ringer Reef’s popular Picnic in the Vineyard events are back. This year they have sourced quality live music from near and far to entertain you whilst enjoying a picnic and glass of wine. Kick back, soak up the views and chill out at Ringer Reef.

This years musicians are: Nathan Vaccaro, Kelly Menhennett, Mt Alford, Adam Lindsay, Red Brick Radio, Dean Haitani, Parkville, Matt Glass & the Loose Canons, Jenny Biddle, Nathan Power, Muddy Wolfe, Jerimiah Johnson, and Joe Davis.

The event’s liquor license does not allow you to bring your bring your own drinks. There will be a range of beer, soft drink and platters available. Welcome to bring your own picnic food.
